National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Introduction:

The formation of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) under the NCC Act, 1948 is a major milestone for the development of the student community. With an objective of "Unity and Discipline", the NCC has become instrumental in molding the character and imparting in our children a dynamic outlook during their school and college education.

Aims:

Development of leadership, comradeship, spirit of sportsmanship and the idea of service. To create a force of disciplined manpower which in a national emergency could be of assistance to the country. To provide training for students with a view to developing in them officer-like qualities, thus also enabling them to obtain commission in the Armed Forces. The Corps has expanded its horizons and now aims at developing character qualities amongst cadets and making them into good leaders and useful citizens so that they can take their appropriate place in building the nation. The qualities of leadership, discipline, e-spirit-de-corps, courage and confidence with a secular outlook, which are the hallmarks of good and useful citizens, are inculcated in the cadets through a well-conceived programme of institutional training combined with adventure sports and outdoor activities. The progress and quality of training is reviewed and changes incorporated to bring about improvements.

Our Introduction:

DRIEMS Engineering College is committed towards social and national responsibilities for, we have raised the NCC wing. We believe that an individual will possess an adoring personality by integrating him / her in activities like NCC.

DRIEMS Engineering College is equipped with several infrastructural facilities for NCC training programme which provides ample opportunities to the cadets by way of conducting class room activities, drill practices, firing camps, personality development and voluntary service programmes. The objective and vision of our NCC wing is to create awareness among the student community regarding its importance towards nation building. Besides, an NCC cadet is presented with a plethora of job opportunities in reputed government and public sector concerns. We have in mind to train students towards participating in republic day parade and peoples exchange programme. DRIEMS NCC wing finetunes the personality of a person in total and equips him mentally to face various challenges.

National Cadet Corps in Our College was instituted in 2012. The NCC of our college has a short span record of meritorious contribution; the 4(O) CTC NCC Cuttack has won many awards due to the contribution by our Cadets' activities in our college have evoked much enthusiasm among the students. At present, there is only one wing in our college comprising of about 50 cadets who are actively involved in all NCC activities to make our college and our Nation proud. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth development movement. It has enormous potential for nation building. The NCC provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-round development with a sense of Duty, Commitment, Dedication, Discipline and Moral Values so that they become able leaders and useful citizens. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities, with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline and Adventure Training. The NCC is open to all regular students of schools and colleges on a voluntary basis. The students have no liability for active military service. Cadets will be selected in NCC based upon their Physical fitness, Knowledge, Ability and their determination. Selected cadets will undergo 2 years training and they will be taught on various related in infantry subjects, which includes,

Strength:

The DRIEMS NCC has already qualified total 85 no's trainees as a "C" certificate holder by giving influence them in following training activities: Training - To achieve the above objectives, the 4 (O) CTC (Tech) NCC provides two broad types of training. One is the institutional training and the second is Camp training. The institutional training covers general subjects like drill, weapon training, civil defense, health and hygiene, lessons in leadership, fitness and basic knowledge of small firearms. For further development of leadership and citizenship, NCC organizes Camps. The Camp training involves collective training, where the cadets rough it out in the open. The cadets gain the art of 'Esprit de corps' while working in a team. The annual training camps are held in the months of May/June and December/January and incorporate social service activities. Attachment Training:

To motivate NCC Cadets to join the Armed Forces, the cadets are attached to various defense units.

Sports and Games:

Sports and games have been incorporated in the curriculum of NCC activities. The first ever NCC games were conducted at New Delhi from August 06 - 15, 1997. 1350 boys and girls cadets from all over the country participated in the National Independence Golden Jubilee Panel Corps Games. The Cadets competed in various athletic events, football and volleyball. The Prime Minister, Raksha Mantri, Rajya Raksha Mantri and the three Service Chiefs graced the events. The games provided an additional avenue for the youth to display their prowess in sports and games at the National level.

Adventure training:

To quench the thirst for adventure of the cadets NCC gives adventure training in the form of Mountaineering, Trekking, Cycle and Motor Cycle Expedition, Para Sailing, Para Jump, Slithering, Scuba Diving and etc. Community Development As part of a cadet's growing up process, the NCC takes up a large number of community development programmes.
